Carbon Dioxide Removal and Direct Air Capture
Why do we need carbon dioxide removal (CDR)?
The Paris Agreement is a global commitment to limiting temperature rises to between 1.5 and 2ºC above pre-industrial levels.
To achieve this will require not only a reduction in emissions, but also the removal of an estimated 730 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Today, there are no proven technologies to achieve this at the scale required.
Other proposed approaches are either land-intensive (e.g. Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage) or energy-intensive (e.g. Direct Air Capture).
Origen are developing carbon dioxide removal technology, scalable to the required levels.
