COST-EFFECTIVE Carbon-negative baseload POWER

Other ideas to remove CO₂ from the atmosphere are either land-intensive (for example, biomass energy with carbon storage) or energy-intensive (for example, Direct Air Capture).

Origen Power's solution is neither land-intensive or energy-intensive - it has a small land footprint and the process removes CO₂ from the air, even as it generates electricity.

Origen Power has the potential to address the energy trilemma of delivering low-cost, low-carbon and secure energy and it will lead to the development of a revolutionary new design for power stations - power stations that cleanse the air of CO₂.

Origen Power's technology uses natural gas to generate electricity in a way that removes CO₂ from the atmosphere. At the end of the process, there is less CO₂ in the air than there was at the outset.

Current technology that uses natural gas to generate electricity results in ~400g of CO₂ being emitted into the atmosphere for every kWh of electricity produced - whereas using the Origen Power process to generate electricity results in the removal of ~800g of CO₂ from the air for every kWh of electricity produced.

To avoid dangerous climate change and achieve the ambition of the Paris Agreement, it is necessary to restrict the rise in mean global temperatures to between 1.5 and 2°C above pre-Industrial levels.

To achieve this, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) predicts that we will need to remove somewhere between 2 and 10 billion tonnes of CO₂ from the atmosphere each year during the second half of the century. To put that in perspective, all the world's forests and soils together remove just 3.3 billion tons of CO₂ from the atmosphere each year.
